On Wednesday, ACT released their annual report on the condition of College and Career Readiness showing only 40% of students met the benchmark that indicates how likely they are to succeed in a first year algebra class.
This is not only alarming for math education, reading readiness has also been on a steady decline and science wavering at the same low range with no clear uptrend for the past few years. Further, only 20% of the 1.3 Million US graduates that took the exam passed the benchmarks for STEM readiness although 45% of them showed interest in a STEM career path.
We are failing at preparing our young people for the opportunities they want and the futures they aspire to. Our educational system needs a revolution and your role as supporter, coach, gap filler for your child is more important than ever. What do you feel that you need in order to confidently support your child’s education beyond the classroom?
