Nuclear Engineer
Dr. Mareena Snowden was the first black woman to earn a PHD in nuclear engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her research is focused on nuclear arms control verification, nonproliferation, and modernization.
As a child, Mareena never dreamed of a career in STEM, in fact she was nervous and had anxiety when it came to math and science. That all changed thanks to her high school math and physics teachers.
3 Things We Love About Mareena:Â
- Her role model is Katherine Johnson, whose picture she put up on her wall right after the movie “Hidden Figures” came out.Â
- She used her differences as her strength and not a weakness.
- She’s featured in MARVEL’s The Unstoppable Wasp Comic #6!
