Dr. Marie Maynard Daly


Dr. Marie Maynard Daly was the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry. One of her biggest contribution to medicine was her pioneering research on the effects of hypertension in arteries leading to a better understanding of how heart attacks work.

  • Not only did she develop programs to increase enrollment of minority students in medical schools and graduate science programs, she established a scholarship fund for African American science students at Queens College (Flushing, NY) in honor of her father
