According to research, Preschool teachers in the US are not as comfortable with science as they are literacy. 99% of preschool teachers focus on literacy education 3-4 times a week, only 75% focus on math, and 42% focus on science.
The reason? Preschool teachers are much more confident with their literacy skills and therefore spend more time on it. Early exposure to science could definitely help address the low science achievement among US elementary school children. However, whether or not your preschool incorporates science, this is a great opportunity for supplemental learning at home. Visiting children’s museums and conducting simple experiments can help fill that gap while having some family fun! Source: The Journal
